Hanabusa Supports President Obama's Climate Change Plan

Statement

Date: June 25, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Colleen Hanabusa (HI-01), member of the House Committee on Natural Resources, released the following statement in support of President Obama's plan to address global climate change, which the White House released on Tuesday:

"President Obama has earned the nation's gratitude for showing leadership and setting the country on a course toward effective action on climate change," said Hanabusa. "This is a multi-dimensional problem that calls for more than platitudes and simplistic approaches. Instead, the President's plan will allow for real progress in responding to global challenges.

"The President's plan offers real opportunities for Hawaii as well. Our state is a natural location for research and development in renewable energy, with bio-fuels, geothermal, photovoltaic, wave action, and wind energy all being possibilities in this single location. Here at the doorstep of Asia and the Pacific, we are prepared to become the world's leading laboratory, bringing together experts from all over the world to develop and perfect next-generation technologies in renewable, sustainable energy production.

"Since the President's plan includes international efforts to address climate change, Hawaii is again ideally positioned as a forum for gatherings of international leaders, and a location for diplomatic facilities to support multilateral negotiations.

"The President's plan offers numerous opportunities to work toward a better future for the world, our nation, and our state. I am committed to supporting the President's vision."
